The revd John Wesley preaching in the Gwennap Ampitheatre. Painted and engraved by W O Geller. The natural Ampitheatre at Gwennap (Cornwall), far the finest I know in the Kingdom. It is a round green hollow, gently shelving down about 60 feet deep, but I suppose it is 200 across one way and near 300 the other. “The people both filled it, and covered the ground round about” --- “above 32000 the largest assembly I ever preached to” --- “I think the most magnificent spectacle which is to be seen on this side of Heaven” Vide Mr Wesley’s Journal.
