Wooden rectangular box with a hinged lid. This box was use by Robert Carr Brackenbury, to keep his pocket bible. There is a brass plate with an engraved inscription.

This box contains the Pocket bible of Robert Carr BrackenburyEsq High Sheriff of Lincolnshire. Used by him in preaching, whilst establishing Methodism in the Isle of Portland in 1791, where he built at sole cost Chapel and Ministers House giving both to the Methodist people. On his death in 1818 the book was sent as a precious legacy by his widow to an old friend and Almoner Mr. William Gibbs of Easton Portland passing to his son William afterwards and to his grandson William B Gibbs Esq j,p, Glamorganshire by whom it was presented to the Trustees of Easton Wesleyan Methodist Chapel 1913
