Earthenware round plate with two holes in the top border to facilitate hanging on a wall. The subject is Adam Clarke in a half-length profile facing 3/4 left in the manner of John Jackson R.A. (1778-1831) portrait probably from the engraving by James Posslewhite (fl 1849-53) . He is wearing a white shirt and cravat with a black waistcoat and black large collared coat with 2 white buttons. There is line shading on either side of the portrait. The border decoration consists of an outer edge relief moulding and painted black and an inner border painted mustard. Inside this is a border of green leaves. In the centre is the image of Clarke and 2 inscriptions.
