Glazed and painted earthenware bust of John Wesley on an integral bow fronted waisted socle in the manner of Enoch Wood modelled from life 1781 second series. The back is concave with a square earthenware medallion with chamfered corners. The face and hair are under-glaze painted,the cassock, gown and socle are under-glaze enamel painted and the preaching bands are unpainted white.The hair is grey and the style is a single roll resting on the shoulders. The pupils are black, irises blue, the eyebrows small black strokes and the eyelids have a thin black line on the upper and lower lids. The cheeks are reddish brown and the lips are a thin red line. The cassock has no neck buttons and the bands come from the top of the cravat. The gown is black and has full folds. The socle is integral, waisted and bow fronted. It is painted on the front back and sides in imitation marble coloured blue, brown and yellow.

The Rev. John Wesley M.A. Fellow of Lincoln college Oxford and founder of Methodism; He sat for this bust to Mr. Enoch Wood, Sculptor, Burslem, 1781 and died in 1791 aged 88 years.
