Unglazed earthenware bust of John Wesley on an integral bow fronted waisted socle in the manner of Enoch Wood modelled from life 1781 second series. The hair is single roll resting on the shoulders. The face has a Y shaped vein mark over the right eye and two vein marks on the right temple. The cassock has two neck buttons and the bands come from the top of the cravat. The gown has full folds. The socle is integral, waisted and bow fronted.

The Rev. John Wesley M.A. Fellow of Lincoln college Oxford and founder of Methodism; He sat for this bust to Mr. Enoch Wood, Sculptor, Burslem, 1781 and died in 1791 aged 88 years. Is not this a brand plucked out of the fire.
